Fun Fact About Yourself:  In 2017, I spent 6 months living and working with a non-profit in Cape Town called Ubuntu Football Academy, which focuses on using soccer to build up the next generation of leaders in their community. I currently serve as a committee leader, focusing on supporting the student-athletes who have earned scholarships to study at American prep schools and colleges.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of Carnegie Mellon’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Tepper’s analytics-focused approach to the curriculum was the key aspect that led me to this point. From my previous education and professional experience, I haven’t had much exposure to solving problems through an analytical lens. At Tepper, I know I will receive an education that addresses my blind spot and prepares me to solve problems with data-centered approaches.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Carnegie Mellon? I am particularly excited for the Healthcare Operations course because it will expose me to how operations are approached differently in various sectors of the healthcare industry. I anticipate this course will help me to refine which area of the healthcare industry I would like to land in.

The Tepper MBA is known for intensive one-on-one coaching and personal development. What area do you hope to strengthen during your two years in business school and why? Through the Accelerate Leadership Center, I hope to strengthen my communication skills as a leader because this is a crucial piece of leading any team and is an area in which I can improve.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: When the COVID-19 pandemic began, existing clinical trials remained ongoing to continue maintaining patient safety.  In the normally travel-heavy Clinical Research Associate role, I developed best practices for the client for how to perform virtual “visits” on multiple trials. This ensured that patient safety would continue to be monitored throughout the pandemic, even when travel was not feasible.

How did COVID-19 change your perspective on your career and your life in general? COVID-19 brought to the forefront many of our healthcare systems long-standing inequities. Seeing this play out in real-time re-affirmed and re-focused my desire to address these issues in my professional and personal lives.

What led you to pursue an MBA at this point and what do you hope to do after graduation? An MBA was always on my radar. At this point, I felt I was at the right place in my career to make the jump and fill in the gaps in knowledge that would’ve held me back otherwise. After graduation, I hope to bring my unique skillset gained from the Tepper MBA to a position in healthcare operations or strategy.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Carnegie Mellon’s MBA program? My advice would be to show your authentic self on the application. We are all different and possess unique characteristics that can add value to the program. Be sure to highlight these!
