Michigan Ross Loses Another Top Admissions Official

Diana Economy, director of full-time MBA admissions at the Ross School of Business, is leaving her job, the second departure of a top admissions official at the school within weeks

After losing its managing director of the MBA program and admissions earlier this month, the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business is now facing the departure of another top admissions official for its full-time MBA program. Diana Economy, the highly personable and passionate director of full-time MBA admissions at Ross, is leaving this coming Thursday.

After a ten-year stint in admissions for Ross, Economy is joining Vail Resorts in what she calls “a fully virtual role focused on talent acquisition strategy.” She broke the news this morning on her LinkedIn profile, causing a swell of congratulatory messages from her many fans. Typical of the comments was one from Bernie Finn, a lawyer with Sinas Dramis: “Your new employer has no idea what a prize they have landed. Smart, thoughtful, energetic, industrious and loyal. The whole Diana Economy Fan Club wishes you the very best.”

Economy made the announcement on the same day that Ross welcomed a new dean. Sharon F. Matusik,  the former dean of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder, has been appointed to a five-year renewable term that began today, August 1, and runs through July 31, 2027.

Passionate Advocate For The University Of Michigan And Ross

An enthusiastic advocate for the university and its business school, Economy earned her MBA from Ross in 2010 and also her undergraduate degree from the university in organizational studies in 2020. While at Ross, she was hyperactive i the student community as president of the Human Capital Club, chair of the MBA 2010 Class Gift group,  a peer coach for Ross Career Services and active in the student advisory board’s Ross Leadership Initiative.

She joined the school’s admissions team in 2012 after serving as the human resources and talent acquisition manager for the Boston Consulting Group. She became director of full-time MBA admissions at Ross in 2017 after serving as an associate director and a senior associate director.

‘THE OVERWHELMING FEELING RIGHT NOW IS GRATITUDE’

Her departure follows the resignation of Soojin Kwon for McKinsey & Co. where she is now senior manager of people initiatives, a job she assumed this month. Economy worked closely with Kwon throughout her tenure at the school, and the pair formed a strong partnership as advocates for Ross and its MBA program.

“The overwhelming feeling right now is GRATITUDE,” wrote Economy in her post. “I am beyond grateful for the amazing experiences I’ve had, the countries I’ve visited, and the deep, long-lasting relationships I’ve built with incredible students, alums and colleagues from around the world. If you are reading this, you have been a part of my journey – thank you !! I’m proud of the amazing classes of diverse, motivated, humble, and smart MBA students we have admitted and I know there are many more great classes to come.”
