Yale SOM Welcomes New Students to Residential Programs

The newest students in Yale SOM’s residential master’s degree programs filled a sunny Shen Courtyard at Edward P. Evans Hall on August 12 for welcoming remarks and advice from school leaders.

“It’s my happy task this morning to welcome you to the Yale School of Management, to your orientation, and to the place that will be your home—not only for the next year or two but, we hope, for the rest of your life,” Dean Kerwin K. Charles told the more than 500 students gathered for the event that kicks off the school’s weeklong orientation.

In attendance were new members of the full-time MBA, Master of Advanced Management, Master’s in Global Business and Society, Master’s in Systemic Risk, and Master’s in Asset Management programs, as well as the inaugural class in the Master’s in Technology Management, SOM’s newest degree program.

Entering students in the MBA for Executives program began their Yale SOM careers last month.

‘All Darden’ Event Welcomes New Students for the UVA Darden Academic Year

The University of Virginia School of Business welcomed students back to Grounds on 12 August with the annual “All Darden” event at The Forum Hotel..

More than 500 students in the Full-Time MBA, Executive MBA, Part-Time MBA, and Ph.D. programs gathered with faculty and staff for the kickoff of Opening Week, a series of events and gatherings in the first week of the academic year that help Darden’s new community members feel connected and at home at their new stomping grounds.

Dean Scott Beardsley welcomed students to an experience that is “not business school as usual.” He emphasized the “transformative” nature of Darden’s unique programming, the opportunity to be “surrounded by the brightest minds” among peers, faculty and staff, and the importance of community and relationships to their futures.

“We care deeply about your success and your well-being, and I hope you can feel that commitment,” he said.

University of Utah announces $12 million gift to fund ION Management Science Lab

The University of Utah announced Monday night a $12 million gift from Andrea Pignataro and the ION Foundation to establish the ION Management Science Lab within the David Eccles School of Business.

The ION Management Science Lab is envisioned as an interdisciplinary, globally-oriented institution focused on advancing fundamental research in scientific management. Its mission is to produce impactful and rigorous studies that help managers, entrepreneurs, and business owners adopt a scientific approach through theory development and evidence-based experimentation. The Lab prioritizes building strong academic foundations, designing practical tools for decision-making, and fostering collaboration between industry and academia.

Dr. Todd Zenger, the Presidential Professor of Strategy and Strategic Leadership and the N. Eldon Tanner Chair at the Eccles School, will serve as the director of the ION Management Science Lab.

“I am pleased to see this partnership between the University of Utah and the ION Foundation come to fruition. This initiative provides an invaluable opportunity to shape the direction of research at the David Eccles School of Business,” said Zenger. “The ION Management Science Lab aims to foster collaboration among a community of dedicated international scholars, pushing the frontier of knowledge in a field we believe holds tremendous importance.”
