This is not only true of recent graduates,” shares George Dear. Classmate Bogosi Shashane agrees. “Imperial college Business School’s MBA community has impressed me with its exceptional collaborative spirit and intellectual generosity. Alumni have been remarkably accessible and forthcoming with insights about both the programme and post-MBA opportunities,” PUTTING A NEW SPIN ON OLD SKILLS At the heart of the programme, as you’d expect from a world-leading institution, is a commitment to academic excellence. “Business schools sometimes have a reputation for being less academically focused, but at Imperial, academic success is clearly a top priority. It’s inspiring to be surrounded by peers who are just as committed to learning as they are to excelling in their future careers,” remarks Alia. Fortunately, Imperial’s faculty possesses the talent to make even the most complex topics accessible. Accounting, for many, has been a surprise favourite module on the programme so far. Essential business and management knowledge with the latest technological insights “As someone who’s only ever worked in Marketing, it’s probably not a surprise to you that I don’t consider myself a numbers person. So, imagine my surprise when I developed a clear understanding of accounting in my very first term!” shares Sheen Hui. “Our Financial & Managerial Accounting Professor, Dr. Danielle Lyssimachou, did an amazing job demystifying the subject for us.” George agrees. When reflecting on what his standout learning moments have been so far he says, “It is fair to say that I had mixed feelings about the accounting module as I sat waiting for the first lecture to begin, however Dr. Dannielle Lyssimachou delivers the class in an incredibly intuitive and applied way that made accounting one of my favourite modules to date.” Another surprise learning highlight has been found through the School’s partnership with the nearby Royal College of Art. Perhaps not the most natural institutional pairing for a business school on paper, but in practice the collaboration has enabled Imperial’s MBA students to take the lead on a whole new stage. “Learning to present from some of the best performers in the world was a real privilege and another great example of the business school leveraging the links formed through the university,” continues George. For Riccardo, core modules like LEADS (Leadership, Ethics, Awareness, Diversity, Society) have provided the most surprising, yet valuable learning experience “by challenging me to think more deeply about my values, strengths, and weaknesses, and how this applies to the type of leader I am and want to become. One of the lectures focusing on resilience even had us dancing under the guidance of an award-winning choreographer—a refreshing and unexpected way to learn about leadership!” he recalls. Equipping future leaders with the tools to navigate a data-driven world And, being Imperial, leveraging the best the technology has to offer is as essential to learning as the students are themselves, even in the most unusual of scenarios. “During one of our Organisational Behaviour lectures, our class had the opportunity to visit Imperial’s Data Observatory—the largest of its kind in Europe—at the Data Science Institute,” shared Christa. “One may not see a natural relationship between Organisational Behaviour and data science, but Imperial understands the importance of equipping future leaders with the tools to navigate a data-driven world.” INNOVATION Being located in the hub of London brings with it a whole host of opportunities – both on campus and off. “The rich mix of global industries, innovative start-ups, and established multinational companies offers unparalleled networking opportunities,” remarks Gabriela Warpsinski, who has joined the programme following a role as a Researchers for the British Heart Foundation. “As someone who wants to launch my own business, I am really excited to learn about the incredible entrepreneurial ecosystem at Imperial, which offers fantastic opportunities to test out ideas and refine them. The focus on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and providing hands-on support aligns perfectly with my long-term goals, making it the perfect fit for both my professional and personal growth.” David Driskell, who joined the programme from the US, agrees that there is a wealth of opportunity to be found in the Capital. “London is the best city in the world and a true epicenter of global business. It’s one of the few places where you can have a morning call with Tokyo and an evening call with Silicon Valley—all in the same day”. With an eye on innovation, David says London’s thriving tech startup scene fosters innovation, making it an ideal place for aspiring business leaders. Bogosi shares similar sentiments. “The city hosts headquarters of numerous Fortune 500 companies, leading consulting firms, and innovative start-ups, providing unique networking opportunities and potential career paths,” he says. “The diversity of London’s business ecosystem allows for immediate application of classroom concepts through real-world projects and internships. Furthermore, the city’s strategic location enables easy access to European markets and business cultures, while maintaining strong connections with Asian and American markets.” Graduation Day takes place at the Royal Albert Hall The opportunity to study at Imperial whilst living in London has only added to this. “Imperial’s innovative emphasis was palpable. Whether at the South Kensington or White City campus, there’s always something exciting happening, making it an ideal environment for growth and learning,” David concludes. “The Imperial Enterprise Lab is particularly exciting, as it connects brilliant minds to foster innovation. It provides invaluable support to aspiring entrepreneurs at every stage of their ventures.” Previous Page Continue ReadingPage 2 of 3 1 2 3
