Consultant Bio

After spending nearly a decade in marketing and consulting, Gina discovered her true passion for coaching in 2019 when she began working with MBA applicants. Gina believes that the MBA admissions process is an opportunity to step back, reflect on your strengths and passions, and discover your “why” – outside the expectations and bar set by family and peers. As a writer and marketer, Gina enjoys helping clients tell the stories that make them unique and exciting applicants. As someone who has pivoted more than once in her career, Gina particularly enjoys working with people who are interested in changing careers after business school but are unsure of how to pitch themselves or what transferable skills they bring.

After working for five years in consulting for financial services and tech clients at Ernst & Young and Slalom Consulting, Gina leveraged her MBA to transition to healthcare. She spent four years at Genentech, a leading biotech firm in San Francisco, gaining experience in sales, marketing, and commercial strategy, helping launch multiple products and eventually leading digital marketing for one of Genentech’s highest grossing cancer drugs. Throughout her time at Genentech, she was actively involved in MBA on-campus recruiting, hosting career treks, and interviewing candidates. She has coached many aspiring MBA and dual-degree applicants through the critical decision point of pursuing their degrees and the application process. She has helped individuals launch their careers at sought-after companies and advises students and professionals on career exploration, networking, resume and essay writing, interview preparation, and offer negotiation. She is currently a career coach at Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), where she coaches underrepresented minorities – African American, Latinx, Indigenous people – to attain successful careers in business, and at McComb’s School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, where she coaches MBAs and Master of Science Students in Marketing, Finance, and Business Analytics.

Gina has a B.A. in Economics from University of California, Berkeley, and a JD/MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. She is a certified yoga teacher, mindfulness-based coach, and freelance food and travel writer. She has traveled to 30 countries and lived in San Francisco, Chicago, Washington DC, Santa Fe, Nebraska, Bali, and Chengdu. She currently lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband, who was her Kellogg classmate, and their English Cream Golden Retriever.

I can't recommend Gina enough for anyone navigating the business school application process. She helped me hone my unique personal brand and clarify why I wanted to pursue an MBA, making my application truly stand out from the crowd. Her feedback on my essays was always very actionable, offering just the right amount of distance I needed to refine my writing. Even as deadlines grew tight, Gina remained incredibly responsive and committed, providing support when I needed it most. Thanks to her guidance, I was able to craft a compelling application, ultimately gaining admission to both Stanford and Wharton. I cannot recommend working with Gina enough!

  • Loved Working With Gina
I worked with Gina on R1 applications to HBS, GSB, and the Lauder program at Wharton. I'm happy to share that I was accepted to 2 of the 3 programs! Gina was an incredible partner throughout the entire process. Early on, she took the time to truly get to know me – she asked very thoughtful questions that allowed me to uncover insights about myself and shape compelling essay topics. Her thought partnership, candid feedback on my resume and essay iterations, and her interview preparation sessions, were invaluable. I'm grateful to have had Gina as my coach during this journey and would highly recommend working with her. I truly could not have done this without her guidance and support!

Gina is amazing at what she does! She coaches you, not only to help you find your story, but to take a step back and reflect on what you aim to achieve in your career and how an MBA can help you get there! Gina helped me define my story and was an amazing thought partner on essays - she gave honest and detailed feedback in every iteration. She also kindly gave me guidance before my interview. Thanks to her help, I got into an M7 school with a very generous merit scholarship!

  • Extremely Helpful!
Gina was extremely helpful throughout the application process and instrumental in my admissions success! She was particularly great at helping me determine my "why MBA" answer and I found her thought provoking questions during brainstorming sessions to be a highlight of working together. Another highlight was her detailed and blunt feedback on my resume and essays, which significantly improved my drafts between feedback sessions. I was admitted to multiple M7s with Gina's help and would recommend her to anyone.

  • Swift & Tailored Approach
I worked with Gina Chen at Vantage Point MBA during R2 applications after an unsuccessful self-attempt of R1. I had several challenges to overcome (low GRE score, low undergraduate GPA, unclear story, etc.), along with an extremely tight timeline. After being matched with Gina, she quickly developed a clear plan of attack, and we worked countless hours to refine my “Why MBA” and develop my personal brand. She remained with me throughout the entire application, interview, and waitlist process. I credit much of my success to Gina. I was accepted to my top Ivy League MBA program with a generous merit scholarship, and ultimately decided to accept a full-tuition Consortium fellowship offer at a T25.

  • Helpful, Flexible, Honest!
Gina is excellent - I applied R2 this admissions cycle and worked with Gina on all my applications. She's great at helping applicants identify their "why MBA" and how to craft a compelling narrative. What sets Gina apart is that she's a great listener who can help you weave multiple facets of your life into a holistic story that resonates with admissions officers. Gina is also incredibly flexible. I worked with her the last week of December and she always made time to respond to my emails and provide feedback on my essays, despite it being around the holidays. As other reviewers have mentioned, she doesn't sugar coat her feedback, which results in significant improvements with each iteration of your essays. I can look back and ...

  • Amazing At What She Does
What stands out to me about Gina is her ability to hone in on your strengths and unique traits as a candidate and help you tell your story in a compelling way. She gave me feedback on my essays that showed me how to think about the prompts and answer them in a way that speaks directly to the adcom. Most importantly, she's genuinely passionate about helping people figure out their "why" and how the MBA can help them get there. I ended up with several M7 admits which I am absolutely thrilled about - can't recommend her enough!

  • Exceptionally Helpful
When I started the process I knew I wanted to get an MBA and that was about it. Gina helped me to reflect on why I wanted to go, why now was the right time, and specifically how the degree would excel my career. Applying to business schools is a daunting process and Gina helped add structure and was available to answer any and all of my one off questions. Here feedback was not at all sugar coated, but was exactly what I needed to hear to feel confident about every application I submitted.

  • Couldn't Have Done It Without Her
Gina was indispensable during my business school application process. She served as an incredible thought partner to help me shape my story. While initially, I dreaded essay writing, Gina helped turn it into a great self-reflection exercise on what I really wanted to get out of my business school experience and how I will be able to uniquely contribute to the business school community. Both the quality of my writing and my ideas were improved by working with Gina.

  • Transformative Experience
Before I began working with Gina, I knew I wanted to utilize an MBA program to make a career pivot, but I did not have a crisp "why" and had done very little to test my hypotheses of what potential industries I wanted to enter. Working with Gina grounded me - she helped me understand the ways in which my biggest career achievements could propel me into a different field and explain them in a way that would make sense to Admissions Committees. Throughout the process, she was supportive but also knew when to give me space to process and digest her feedback. Her feedback is often direct and fair from sugar-coated, but that was exactly what I needed. My acceptance to two highly selective ...

Gina is an incredibly thoughtful and insightful consultant who bears considerable responsibility for my acceptance. I come from somewhat of a non-traditional background and Gina helped me communicate aspects of my life and experience in a way that emphasized my leadership skills and readiness for the next step. Her feedback was often tough to hear - she's thorough and very frank - but it was always just the right feedback to take my application to the next level. I can't thank her enough!
