Joey loves helping people get into business school. A storyteller and coach, Joey believes the MBA admissions process is a time for self-reflection, goal setting, and communicating authentic narratives.
Joey graduated Harvard College cum laude in economics and went on to work as a writer for MTV Networks. He made the decision to pursue an MBA because he wanted a general management education and attended Harvard Business School (HBS) with the goal of transitioning into finance. Throughout his post-MBA work in investment banking and private equity, he coached junior colleagues (mostly second and third-year analysts) on their business school applications and thrived on the honest, no-holds-barred conversations he had with young people as they charted out the next steps in their career and life. What began in 2010, helping friends edit their MBA essays, evolved naturally over the years into formally coaching MBA applicants. Joey loves partnering with talented young people and guiding them as they reflect on their life experiences and set future goals. He believes the best application materials are the culmination of intense introspection, humility, and creativity. Joey draws on his professional experience and training as a writer to help his clients craft unique and compelling narratives that convey depth and maturity.
Joey lives in Middlebury, VT with his husband and golden doodle. He enjoys skiing, climbing, hiking, and surfing, and is active in a number of early-stage startups.

The SBC All-In Service
The majority of our clients choose our All-In package because they understand that the competitive admissions process demands a stellar and strategic application at every level. Essays, interviews, school visits, recommendation letters, and resumes are all guided by an integrated strategy, managed through our All-In service by one dedicated and accountable consultant.
SBC’s All-In Service includes 8 modules:
1) The SBC System™ begins with meticulous matchmaking before we begin an engagement or accept payment.
2) Personal Assessment & Critical Reflection. Your primary consultant will work to understand you authentically along multiple dimensions and create a strategy reflecting what MBA programs are looking for. Your consultant will dig into the who, what, how and why that forms your story through our 360° Personal Orbit ™.
3) We’ll develop a winning personal MBA Application Strategy that answers clearly, “Why should I accept this applicant over the other ones who look equally qualified on paper?”
4) Personal branding is crucial for making your MBA application stand out, and admissions teams love a well-crafted story. Your consultant will help you develop a compelling and cohesive narrative that ties together every aspect of your application—resume, essays, recommendations, and more—tailored to meet each school’s unique expectations.
5) Your success is driven by a collaborative SBC team effort. Your primary consultant taps into a network of former admissions officers and experts for additional insights and you receive exclusive access to The Vault, a comprehensive resource center with decades of application materials.
6) Before submitting your MBA application, ensure it’s flawless with our Flight Test™, where a former admissions officer reviews your entire package with fresh eyes.
7) Take the stress out of interviewing with one-on-one prep with your primary consultant and group prep sessions led by former admissions officers.
8) Our support doesn’t stop once your application is submitted; we continue to assist you in navigating admissions decisions, waitlists, and deferral letters until you accept an offer.

I was recommended to Stacy Blackman by a few friends/colleagues and it was the best decision I could’ve made in this process.
When I first signed up with Stacy Blackman, I was nervous. Fearing that an “MBA Consultant” might push me into a box, I stated from the beginning that I didn’t want to change myself for the adcom – I wanted to be 100% authentically ME! And from day one, Joey did not disappoint in that goal. From school selection, essays, interview and more – every aspect of my time with Joey was completely tailored to me and my story. He was an incredibly thoughtful and intentional coach, helping me highlight a unique and compelling story that was instrumental in being accepted to my top choice school.
Joey has a keen eye for detail, and was able to identify small improvements that had (in my opinion) HUGE impacts. As a fellow creative (Joey had previously worked as a TV writer), Joey met me where I was creatively and professionally. He advised on some creative risks in my essay and gave me feedback that I think truly helped my application standout.
I cannot recommend Joey enough! Especially to anyone LGBTQ+, or with a background in media / entertainment.
Stacy Blackman was the only MBA consultant firm that I engaged with to prepare my applications, based on rave reviews from some of my colleagues and friends. I would now add my voice to these rave reviews – I’ve had nothing but positive experiences from my time working with them and ESPECIALLY my consultant: Joey.
Joey worked with me from scratch to create a narrative that felt impactful, cohesive, and mostly important – authentic. I started off with a series of unconnected anecdotes that I wanted to share – Joey helped discover a central theme and throughline that tied them together, Moreover, Joey wasn’t afraid to be blunt or candid about things that didn’t work – and he always conveyed them in a humorous (but not personal or unprofessional) way. I also want to highlight Joey’s eye for detail – without exaggeration, edits from Joey would often come back with 100+ comments, exhibiting just how much care he took into reading every line of my essays to make sure that they were as concise and impactful as possible.
In summary – I would ABSOLUTELY recommend anyone interested in applying to business school to work with Joey. He helped me overhaul and fine-tune nearly all aspects of my application – from the resume to the application, essays, and interview prep. More than his expertise, he’s also simply a pleasure to work with funny, empathetic, and relatable. Thank you, Joey!
