Hi Mr. AC, Julie-Anne Heafey from mbaMission. You’re bringing some good things to the table – strong stats, good leadership of significant projects at a rapidly growing firm, and a clear roadmap (pun intended) to your goals. To me, however, you have two issues: 1) Stanford. You’ve picked the hardest business school in the world as your target, and one where the accomplishments you list are common to many applicants…the odds are incredibly difficult. So you’ve got to really up the ante in terms of demonstrating how you’ve broken new ground and overcome challenges, and work to bring a story that sets you apart. 2) Your self-described lack of soft and business skills. If this assessment is true – and given your leadership and the fact that you are a manager of customer insights, I am scratching my head about this – it’s a red flag. While Stanford will certainly help you grow these things *further*, you have to have developed some level of business experience and soft skills even before you arrive…and in fact, ideally have some standout things to share with your classmates. So I’m not exactly clear on what you mean here, but if in fact you don’t work well with people or you might not interview well, that will definitely affect your chances at GSB. So, for now I’ll put your odds at the regular odds for Stanford – around 6% – and hope that in fact, you can bring your A Game to the application and address these potential weak spots. Good luck!!
