Hi, Mr. Average Commercial Banker, this is Julie-Anne Heafey from mbaMission. Hmmm. Stats wise, you’re on target with a slightly above average GMAT for the Booth EMBA and a fairly on target level of experience. There are some key details I’m a little unsure about – namely, your current location and which Booth EMBA campus you’re targeting, how you’ll manage the logistics and the degree of support/sponsorship you have, and what the nature of your role is in terms of people or resources managed. So, without completely understanding that, I’ll be conservative and put your odds at about 40%. I think you’re probably targeting the HK campus, which would make sense with your trajectory and interests…with an EMBA, it’s very important …
I think you’re probably targeting the HK campus, which would make sense with your trajectory and interests…with an EMBA, it’s very important to show that you’ve fully thought through how you’ll make it all happen and how that particular program will help you toward your goals. The nature and length of your experience will also come under scrutiny – I’m not sure if you’re managing any employees or particular resources…these are things that most EMBA programs look for. If you’re in more of an individual contributor role, sometimes the top programs might hesitate, so look to demonstrate how you manage teams or where you can demonstrate more senior-level leadership. Sometimes this takes a little work – when I’ve worked with EMBA clients in the past with more limited managerial purview, we thoroughly brainstorm ways to show this kind of work, or – if that’s not as easily done- how you will be taking on more responsibility at your firm in some other way that looks significant. Good luck!
