Hello. I have always been described as a people person, and I thrive in opportunities where I present or otherwise interact face-to-face with important individuals. I have a strong track record in financial modeling and quantitative strategy. However, I struggle with (timed) quantitative exams. I believe that I am much more than a quant score.

I was ranked as a top analyst at a large consulting firm in my first year, as a result, I was selected for early promotion. I cold pitched an acquisition to an executive and pivoted to a job working for a leading biopharma company on a small team that reports directly to the board. I am the youngest member of the team by fifteen years.
My goal is to continue within the molecular biology or pharmaceutical development space. I would like to either remain in a corporate strategy position or specialize in one of the products that I am already familiar with and strategically develop pipeline diagnostics and/or therapeutics.

You are a helluva lot more than a quant score! So even though you have an impressive 710 GMAT, I am assuming that as a poet you killed the verbal and didn’t do all that well on the quant. No worries and here is why. Your 3.91 from Bucknell and your superb track record at work should assure an admissions official that you can handle what quant is in the core curriculum. Duke is an excellent school for you because the admissions team does not overindex standardized test scores but actually gives applicants a holistic review of their applications. Other schools maintain the same thing but many other schools aren’t telling the full truth. The fact that you passed through the screen of a top …

Duke is an excellent school for you because the admissions team does not overindex standardized test scores but actually gives applicants a holistic review of their applications. Other schools maintain the same thing but many other schools aren’t telling the full truth. The fact that you passed through the screen of a top consulting firm and now work for a leading biopharma company as the youngest member of a small team that reports directly to the board is a very big deal. And your post-MBA goal to work in the same industry leverages your existing experience and would be easy to get with your MBA. So from one poet to another: Pack your bags. You’re going to your first choice school in Durham for your MBA, unless you take up one of the other offers you will no doubt receive.
