With a GMAT score that is roughly 45 points below the latest class average at IU Kelley and a GPA that is right on the latest class average, I think Mr. Builder will present a challenging decision for the admissions staff. But I like what this first generation young person has accomplished in his life, and I especially like his personal initiative in buying homes and listing them on Arbnb. His post-MBA goal, moreover, is totally in line with his work background. That’s why I’m giving him odds above Kelley’s current 49% acceptance rate.

Hello Mr. Builder! Krista Nannery from mbaMission here. Thanks for posting!

As an URM and first generation college student, you are sure to catch the attention of AdComs. Add in the solid volunteer work AND the Airbnb side hustle and you’ve got a lot going for you. I’m a little worried about that 620 but I think if Kelley specifically were to go for someone 46 below their average, you might be the guy they go for. For the other schools on your list, just bear in mind that Darden and Kellogg can be very difficult to crack with a sub-700 GMAT score. (Also harder to get into with 8+ years of work experience too.)

Very cohesive story and seems to be realistic and specific about career goals. Probably worth taking the GMAT again, or worth knowing if that is the score after significant studying.

OK GMAT score is overshadowed by the big life wins. Goal seems focused!

GMAT feels a little low. Big life wins are great interview fodder
