I have spent my entire career in China. I initially started out in consulting but later changed to e-commerce. I have had 3 promotions over the last 4 years, and now directly lead over 20 people; the firm increased in size from 500 to over 1000. My firm is in the process of IPOing, therefore I will soon take my exit.

Hi Mr. China Ecommerce, Congrats on your promotions! It looks like pivoting into e-commerce played to your strengths. This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I think you have a lot going for you – outstanding career trajectory, leadership experience. That said, I would love to see more community engagement – you didn’t fill in the Extracurriculars here, but it doesn’t mean you aren’t doing them. Any community volunteering activities would show Wharton a different side of you and help to differentiate you. Another point – for Wharton, your GMAT score could be a concern as it’s a shade below its average (which is hovering around 720/730). To make your profile more competitive, I suggest trying to retake it to see if you can boost your score, even if by 10 points. Or if you find yourself hitting a ceiling with the GMAT, look into the GRE. The study material is similar, but some applicants find the GRE test format more suited to their test-taking style. My estimate of your odds is based on applying now with a 710. But if you improve your test scores, your chances will increase. If you would like to discuss your profile in more detail, feel free to schedule a 1:1 consultation with us. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!
