As a former high school dropout, I started working as an electrician at 15. Then I joined the French military where I was trained in special operations and deployed twice in Africa (Sahel region). I resumed my higher education by first passing a high school equivalence with the highest honors then my training at Leiden. Best qualifier: determined.
Given my background, the most favorable point of entry into Ivy League schools appears to be an MPA rather than an MBA. For this reason, I will candidate for a joint degree rather than a single MBA.

– Achieving Brigade’s commando selection aged 20 (which stands as an exception) and excelling during my formation. – Transmitting values and work ethic to my class of soldiers during their initial training. – Resuming my study at 24, almost ten years after I dropped out, and achieving the highest mark in my cohort.
My goal is to work at the intersection between Business and Policy-making. As of now, my interests mainly lie in finance and strategy but it remains unclear whether I would prefer to apply these skills in private or public consultancy per se. Although it is not its purpose, I would hope a 2 years MBA can give me the space for that reflection.

Hi Mr. Unconventional, Talk about pivoting! I applaud you for going from high school dropout to getting top grades in your class. This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I am fascinated by your personal story, foreign languages, military career and achievements. I also like that you have a strong GRE score for Wharton. That said, because of your tenure, the Admissions Committee will definitely want to know why you are seeking to pivot, and what skills / knowledge you are seeking at Wharton that you cannot learn on the job. Further, as you are applying to a joint degree, they will also want to understand your career goals that require both degrees. If you can articulate this compellingly in your essays, that would be the key …
