You also have a below-average GPA from UMass-Boston in an admittedly challenging major. You also don’t say if you have been promoted during your service in the Coast Guard. That is extremely important in selective MBA admissions. Schools want to see you as a success in the jobs you have held before admitting you. And Columbia is a very selective school. I don’t see you getting into CBS unless you can mount a more convincing story of your impact at work and evidence of a promotion or two. You’ll need that …

You’ll need that to overcome your low GPA from a school that is not nearly as highly selective as Columbia. My advice: Apply for the January start where the admit rate is much higher at CBS, and add other target programs to your list. Unless I am missing something, you should apply to schools ranked 15th and lower. My odds are for CBS’ August admit.
