I started my career in Consulting at Deloitte where I worked in the Financial Services group. After two years at the firm, I transitioned to a Strategy role at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) – made the jump to get more strategy experience. I have been working here for two years and want to get an MBA to transition to MBB.

Getting into CPPIB (historically it has been very competitive to get in)! Leading from scratch the largest COVID strategy planning project at the firm. I have been leading it directly with the MD! I love strategy! Getting into Oxford! I am a first-generation student just finding my way… Oxford was a huge win for my confidence!
As you can probably tell, I am very passionate about strategy! Specifically as it relates to Financial Institutions (FI) (although strategy work in general is fun)…. my goal is to marry my experience in FI Consulting at Deloitte and my work in Strategy at CPPIB while using the MBA as a spring board for FI Strategy consulting at MBB!

As a first-gen college grad, you’ve already had quite an amazing trajectory. There are some key elements of your profile that you need to really emphasize to increase your chances of an admission at HBS, particularly the fact that you won a highly selective job at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and that you are working hand-in-hand with the managing director in leading the largest COVID strategy planning project at the firm. Along with your Oxford degree, another of your impressive Big Wins, I like your chances. And I love your demonstrated passion for strategy which would make you an ideal MBB consultant. Your GRE score of 329 is three points above the HBS class average, even though your GPA at the University of Toronto, where four Class of 2020 HBS grads went for their undergraduate studies, is slightly lower than the class average but shouldn’t make a real difference. You should be targeting more schools than HBS and I hope you are. There are lots of places that would open the doors to a job at MBB. You should be applying to a minimum of three schools and probably more like five or six.
Agree with John on what you need to focus on in your app. That is your special sauce.
