Hi Mr. Data Analytics Guy—this is Donna Bauman with Stratus Admissions and I am happy to provide some feedback on your profile. You’ve got a solid foundation in your work and your goal of working in management consulting post MBA puts you in the mainstream of the MBA pipeline. When you work on your essays, I would want you to try to bring in some stories that help show why you are interested in consulting and also if there are some things in your personal life that could be differentiators. At The University of Toronto’s Rotman MBA program, they talk about “spike” factor—and that’s what I’d like to see more of in your profile. What are the issues/hobbies/topics that make you come alive? Or to use GSB speak (even if you don’t apply there this is a great question for everyone to consider)…. What matters most to you? And why? If I were working with you I would be asking you a lot of questions to help get at the secret sauce that makes up you—so that you don’t get lumped into the generic consulting pile—but instead have some unique aspects of yourself that you share to help a school see how you could uniquely add value to their program. You look to have a strong foundation for an MBA, to maximize your chances at McCombs and UNC Kenan-Flagler and McDonough try to add some “spike” factor in sharing more about who you are and what is driving your goals.
