While at my first job for a major telecom company I was promoted four times in four years due to performance. For the last year, I was managing a team of 12+ individuals. In my consulting job, I have already helped clients reduce operational costs, build more efficient processes, and have adapted to four different projects in a 5 month period.
Strategy consulting for a top firm. Right now I have my sights set on Deloitte, and I have spoken with six current MBA students who either interned there or are going to work there full time. I had the opportunity to set the company-wide product strategy while at the telecom company and would like the opportunity to work further in that space.

So you seem to have some passion for going to Duke Fuqua but identify your first choice as UVA Darden while also considering Michigan Ross. All excellent choices that will get you that Deloitte job ir not MBB. I’m sure you know your GPA and GMAT scores are below the class averages for thee schools but I would say that your work experience–particularly your four promotions in four years at the major telecom company could make up for that. It’s also a positive sign that you were able to transition to a global consulting firm which I imagine is a second-tier player given your post-MBA goal. Because you have to count on your work experience to offset below average numbers you need to make sure …

Because you have to count on your work experience to offset below average numbers you need to make sure that your recommenders do a really good job reinforcing your performance. That is super important for you. Otherwise, you would need to retake that GMAT and get the score up by about 20 or so points.
Mr. Deloitte Dreamer: Emily here from The MBA Exchange. As a former Associate Director of Admissions at Columbia Business School and an application reviewer at Wharton, I know that Fuqua, Darden and Ross will like your clear professional upward trajectory. I can certainly see how your experiences at the telecom company and the consulting firm would lead to your goals at Deloitte. Every school likes to see that clear, cohesive story. That said, did you make a strong case for why you NEED an MBA? Some may say you need the credential but MBA programs want more meaty reasoning. I fear that admissions officers will think your current background could suit you well now for the job you want …

I fear that admissions officers will think your current background could suit you well now for the job you want without an MBA. You should think that through if you haven’t already and be ready to explain in an interview or essays. While your work experience will be a big plus, your GPA is on the weaker side and the GMAT, while solid for your schools, doesn’t really make up for the GPA. In any case, I think you will reach your goals and wish you the best!
Hi, Mr. Deloitte Dreamer, Julie-Anne Heafey here with mbaMission. Yes, it looks like we’re all a little confused on your preferred school, but hopefully that inconsistency only showed up here and not in your applications. š I agree that your work experience shows an impressive trajectory, and hopefully that will be borne out in your recommendations. Your GPA is very low, but I have seen some successful applicants break through at the schools you name on occasion with the right set of mitigating factors and strong applications. Good luck (but if you don’t make it, I think there are some clear things you can improve for a reapplication)!!
