I love the energy industry and would like to help continue to advance it forwards. I have two paths in mind: – the first is to enter a large oil and gas producer and work in renewable/sustainable energy strategy, – the second is to work in cleantech strategy or operations, helping to establish sustainable initiatives reducing reliance on hard energy

I’m glad you immediately explained that low 2.5 GPA because it will take a lot of explaining, sadly, to make it not weigh heavily in your admission decisions. I agree with you that your 730 GMAT, along with your explanation, should offset those concerns, especially if your low grades were concentrated in a single year or two and you showed an upward trend toward the end of your undergraduate experience. If that is not the case and your low grades persisted through all four years that will be a major problem in gaining an admit from Tuck. What you have in your favor is your energy background. There aren’t a lot of you in the MBA applicant pool and the fact that you employed in a Fortune 500 company certainly helps. So you need to focus on the accomplishments you have achieved in your jobs and the leadership opportunities they’ve provided. I admire the self-discipline you have shown by your passion for marathons and triathlons and what that says about you. You just need to convince them that your undergraduate experience is not indicative of your academic ability. And by the way, given your goals, UT-Austin or Texas A&M, would allow you to achieve your objectives. So yes, I too would prefer Tuck, SOM, Ross or Tepper for you, it’s important to remember how the MBA will put you on the right path to get where you want to go. Good luck to you!
