Hi Mr. MGMT Consulting, This is Debbie Choy, Senior Consultant at mbaMission. I like that you have a strong work track record – promotions and leading/managing teams. I also like that you’re coaching baseball for inner city youth, demonstrating community leadership. Your GMAT could be a concern for the Admissions Committee (AdCom), as it is below the average at Columbia. How many times have you taken the GMAT? You might consider retaking it – even a 10-20 point boost will make your profile more competitive. As for your career goals, I suggest connecting the dots for AdCom and adding more specificity if possible. For example, what type of companies do you aspire to work for long-term? What would you be doing in your business / corporate development role that leverages both your finance and management consulting backgrounds? If you can articulate this compellingly in your essays, that would be the key to your application success. My estimate of your odds are based on your current GMAT but if you increase your GMAT score, your chances will also improve. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!
Mr. MGMT Consulting – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan here from Stratus.
I really like your work and the fact that with just 4 years of work experience you are managing a small team of analysts.
Your extra curriculars feel rather soft but the fact that you have leadership in the workplace could overshadow this weakness.
CBS truly cares about stats, especially GMAT scores so you would be well-served to retake (if possible) and get your score closer to the ~730 average. If you are able to do that, I think your chances would improve tremendously – probably to 25+%.

Are you applying NOW to start this fall? If yes, CBS may be a bit more forgiving since they want to fill their class. If you aren’t applying until the 2020-21 admissions season then you have time to retake and still hit the ED deadline (typically 1st week in October). The new application will be live the first week in June.
If I’ve misunderstood anything in your profile, feel free to reach out. Wishing you all the best on your application journey!
