Hi, it’s Nisha from mbaMission! You may have gotten into management consulting accidently, but you’re progressed nicely at your firm. Also love seeing your strong academics and your dedication to giving back to the community via tutoring.
Schools may wonder why, with your MsC in Corporate Finance and your mgmt consulting exeprience, you need an MBA to transition to strategy consulting. In your apps, you’ll want to make it very clear what skill gaps you’ve identified that you need to fill to make this transition successfully and how the resources of Haas (and the other schools you are targeting) will enable you to address them. In your apps, you’ll want to make it very clear what skill gaps you’ve identified that you need to fill to make this transition successfully and how the resources of Haas (and the other schools you are targeting) will enable you to address them. It can be done, though – this past year, I had a client who already had a Master’s in Finance get a scholarship to Haas. You’ll also want to make it clear WHY you want to transition to strategy consulting – what motivates you based on what you’ve enjoyed about some of your engagements so far, and what type of impact you want to make as a strategy consultant?
Finally, you had referenced in your introduction that you think “the understanding of economics and technology will make the world a better place to live.” Based on this, what type of impact do you want to make in the long term? Some schools will also for long-term goals – for this, I’d reflect on how you want to address this area based on your skills and longstanding passion for education. This will give the schools a strong sense of your values and what you envision. Hope that helps – best of luck!
Hi Mr. Prospective Youth Icon, this is Donna Bauman with Stratus Admissions and I am happy to weigh in on your profile. Your commitment to education and your passion for volunteering is something that aligns with some of the Haas principles of “Student Always” and “Beyond Yourself.” I do agree that you should be clear in your application what gaps you still feel you have to make the move to corp strategy in either an internal or external role. Your GMAT score will help open the doors and give you full attention, but your essays still need to provide insight into what is driving your goals and why an MBA (and this particular school) will help you get there. Beyond Haas, I think you have …

Beyond Haas, I think you have picked some schools where you could get some scholarships—particularly Emory and Tepper and possibly Anderson too. If you are interested in scholarships you may want to also add UNC Kenan-Flagler, McDonough and possibly Darden.
