Post-MBA I would like to join a bulge bracket (Real Estate Investment Banking Team). My background to date has all been in the real estate investment space and I feel now too close from assets. I was initially envious to join an investment banking team and I would like to use my REPE experience combined with an MBA to do so.

Bonjour Mr. RE Investment! I think your real estate focus and track record will be very attractive to Columbia. This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I think there are a lot of strengths in your profile – robust work experience and a community leader for diversity and inclusion! You have solid academics – your GMAT score looks competitive. Do not convert your GPA to the US system, as Susan pointed out). I also think the Columbia J-term program would be a good fit for you. Be sure to articulate what specific skills / knowledge you’re seeking at Columbia that you haven’t learned on the job, or at EM Lyon Business School. Also be sure to confirm with AdCom that you are indeed eligible to apply since …

Mr. RE Investment – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan Cera here from Stratus.
I admire your commitment to RE! CBS has fantastic resources and initiatives in both the investment and RE space so is a great school for you. While your stats (especially your UG GPA) are below the average, I suspect that you may have converted a GPA that was not on a 4.0 scale to a 3.0. DON’T DO THIS! Just submit the GPA that is on your actual transcript.
Given that you already have two master’s degrees (If I’m reading your profile correctly), you need to clearly show why you need an MBA. I’m thinking that perhaps you need to go deeper in finance which CBS can offer. Since you are looking to …
Given that you already have two master’s degrees (If I’m reading your profile correctly), you need to clearly show why you need an MBA. I’m thinking that perhaps you need to go deeper in finance which CBS can offer. Since you are looking to make a small pivot, I suggest that you apply for J-Term. Your experience to date should allow you to secure an in-semester internship that will set you up for success with recruiting.
Take time to explore what CBS offers around your areas for development. Make sure to connect with students to get a nuanced understanding of what you can expect to learn as well as how you can contribute at Columbia.
If I’ve missed or misinterpreted anything in your profile, don’t hesitate to reach out.
