Dear Mr. Team Builder – kudos for recognizing the areas of your future application most in need of your attention. Before diving in and retaking the GMAT (something that should still be a consideration), think about how you can focus on the “wins” in your profile – you are a Chartered Accountant, your undergraduate GPA is excellent, you have nearly 7 years experience with a global consultancy firm leading a large team, exposure to multiple industries, proven track record of increasing responsibilities AND giving back in your community. Kellogg looks for community contribution in addition to your ability to handle the academic work. You should focus on the experiences gained from building and mentoring your team of analysts. What are some of those learnings? How will those play out when you are a student at Kellogg? Successfully leading a team of 15 analysts across industries is not something that an average candidate can bring to the table. What brings you joy about helping those in your community with their finances? How will this experience and skill transfer to your time as a student? I agree that retaking the GMAT to bump you into the low 700s might take any academic red flag off the table. But don’t overlook the “softer” areas of your profile that can help you stand out at a competitive school like Kellogg. Reach out if you would like to discuss further.
