I have a genetic disease. For 10 years I needed monthly infusions and I’ve had 6 ER trips due to complications. Overcoming these challenges led me to fitness, and I emerged as a leader. I’ve managing teams of +30, had years of P&L responsibility, and exceeded sales goals along the way. My passion is to create a healthier world through fitness.

Dyslexia has been a challenge in my life. I struggled at the beginning of college to adjust, earning a 1.7 my first semester. You learn a lot from failure. Scoring a 740 on the GMAT has been an expression of overcoming my Dyslexia. I believe that my leadership experience and GMAT score are more accurate predictors of my future success in a program.
Short term I want to move into management consulting. Long term I plan to eventually exit consulting and a move into a strategy position at a company within the fitness, health and tech space (Ex: Peloton, Fitbit, Mirror or Tonal).

Hi Mr. Vigor, This is Debbie Choy, Senior Consultant at mbaMission. What a compelling personal story of resilience! I’m also pleased to see that your career background meshes so well with your personal experiences. I like that you have a strong professional trajectory, and are active in your community. I think your GMAT score offsets your GPA. That said, if there were any circumstances that affected your GPA, do consider sharing your side of the story in your applications. Overall, I think you have a lot of strengths in your profile. And I think the unique Fuqua essay of 25 Random Things will allow you to really showcase a lot of personal tidbits, hopefully translating into a good shot at Fuqua. Best wishes for your MBA …

Mr. Vigor – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan Cera, Director of MBA Admissions at Stratus and former adcom member at Duke Fuqua here. As I was reading from the top of your profile and you mentioned being an Eagle Scout and working with Special Olympics, I was secretly hoping that Fuqua was on your list!
I think you are going to have a really compelling story to tell with respect to overcoming both a medical condition and a learning disability. Your work with scouts and Special Olympics demonstrates your commitment to serving others which is absolutely valued at Fuqua. Did you know that Fuqua hosts an annual fundraiser for SONC that raises the most money of any event in NC?!

I’m glad that you nailed the GMAT as it will give adcom confidence that they may not have had when looking at your GPA.
Be sure to connect with Fuqua students and alumni so you can truly understand and present how you will engage in the community.
As a mother of two Eagle Scouts, I would love to do a profile evaluation if you are interested.
Wishing you all the best on your application journey!
