A former D1 athlete, I have a total of six years of Consulting experience at a large, well-known firm (non-MBB). Successful trajectory with early promotions. Outside of consulting, I run a small local business that has a presence across my current state of residence. Prior to consulting, I had a short professional sports career abroad.

Hi Ms. Athlete Entrepreneur, Kristen from MBA Prep School here. There is so much to like about your candidacy! Your professional background covers three different bases: you differentiate yourself through your professional sports career, your progression at a reputable consulting firm highlights your ability to be successful in a traditional business role, and your own venture displays your entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take risks. This trifecta is ideal; you “fit in” in terms of already being in the business world, but you stand out with your sports and start-up experience so you aren’t “just another consultant”. Your GPA is on the lower end of the range for the M7, but your school reputation, major, and GMAT should more than make up for that. You …
You also would bring diversity to the MBA class, which is a huge priority for MBA programs. My only concern is around the why behind your career goals, specifically around PE. Why do you want to work at a “direct to consumer” start-up, and in what role? Do you have a preference for what type of start-up (perhaps something related to sports or athleticwear)? Is PE a realistic post-MBA goal for you coming from your current background? I think if you can iron the details out here and clearly show how you already have some of the skills necessary to achieve these goals, you will have offers to choose from. Please feel free to reach out for a complimentary consultation to chat more about your application strategy.
Harvard should be within grasp. 750 is a very strong score and makes you super competitive. URM and female is a double-plus. Great chances and it’ll just be on the execution.
