Hi Ms. Product Designer, Kristen from MBA Prep School here. As a former MIT Sloan adcom, I think your background is interesting and your experiences at Google and Facebook would immediately catch my eye. Your path there has obviously been a little unique; we don’t often see applicants who pursued design school applying to MBA programs. On the one hand, landing a role at these tech giants is impressive. On the other, admissions officers will probably wonder if you have the quantitative aptitude to be successful in an MBA program. Your GMAT score certainly helps allay those concerns, but I’m curious if you have taken calculus and microeconomics, or any MBA math prep courses. Additionally, I’d love to learn more about what products you’ve designed …
Additionally, I’d love to learn more about what products you’ve designed for these companies and how impactful your work has been. I can tell you from experience that the FAANG applicants who get the most attention in the admissions process are working on high-profile products like Alexa or solving problems like fake news flagging in Facebook. The reputation of your employer is a start, but admissions officers will want to know what you have done there. Have you been promoted, been given a consumer-facing produce project, or had a quantifiable impact? This is really going to drive their ultimate decision, which is why it is difficult for me to give you a true odds assessment with the limited info provided. I’d be happy to offer you a complimentary consultation to discuss the details with you further and help you strategize how to stand out in the process.
