Description: How did the United States evolve from a ragtag collection of colonies to an economic superpower?Ā  Some might explain the phenomena through broad economic theories. In reality, American capitalism was shaped by defining events, favorable global trends, technological innovations, unique cultural values, millions of success individual storiesā€¦and dumb luck. During this course, students will examine American capitalism from the early settlements to the global economic meltdown, to learn how political decisions, entrepreneurial risk-taking, and private and public institutions combined to foster economic freedom and growth.

Review: ā€œThis was an excellent course. It is a history not just of American capitalism but a history of America. It provided far more depth and breadth than expected. The profs did an amazing job of covering this vast topic so succinctly in the time provided by the course. The course was well organized and well delivered. Staff quickly responded early in the course to concerns about quiz formats and “peer” reviewed grading. Their modifications on the fly were much appreciated. The profs themselves were fun and easy to listen to and discussed history with an enthusiasm that was inspiring. Thank you for this great course. I strongly recommend it.ā€ To read additional reviews, click here
