Handicapping Your MBA Odds — Ms. Consulting Wannabe

She’s a 31-year-old white female analyst who has worked for the same financial services technology company for the past eight years. With a 680 GMAT and a 3.43 grade point average in economics from New York University, she wants an MBA from a top school to deepen her knowledge of finance and improve her analytical and communication skills. Her goal: To move into management consulting.

At her firm, she’s responsible for contacting hedge funds and private equity firms on behalf of clients and getting them ‘on-boarded’ to the company’s platform. “I’ve consistently achieved the best results compared to the rest of the team and measured by the number of funds added to our platform and the overall quality of work, according to my boss,” she says.

Her target list of business schools are the University of Michigan’s Ross School, Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business, and UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

In this video, HBSGuru.com Founder Sandy Kreisberg and Poets&Quants Editor John A. Byrne assess her candidacy and hand out odds for her dream schools.
