What Are Your Chances Of Getting In?

It’s the most basic question most applicants ask: What are my chances of getting into a top-ranked MBA program?

Soojin Kwon, director of MBA admissions at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, took a stab at answering that question in a video that popped up yesterday (March 3).

Applicants will find her explanation of the factors that go into admissions decisions entertaining, if slightly frustrating. She notes that one’s chances not only are dependent on the quality of an MBA application, but also such things as the size, quality and career goals of the overall applicant pool in any year.

As she concludes, “There are no constants in this entire equation, meaning there really is no sound way to predict the outcome.”

Kwon’s bottom line advice? “Forget the fancy formulas. Don’t try to predict your chances. By you and show us your best self. If your application is in, you’ll find out soon enough. And if it isn’t, leave the odds making to Vegas.”
