Recalling your own experience, what advice do you have for applicants who are preparing for either the GMAT or the GRE? There’s no substitute for practice — get used to the question formats and develop your muscle memory for testing.

Based on your own selection process, what advice do you have for applicants who are trying to draw up a list of target schools to which to apply? Know what you want to get out of your b-school experience (industry networking, quant skills, etc) and select your schools accordingly.

What advice do you have for applicants in actually applying to a school, writing essays, doing admission interviews, and getting recommenders to write letters on your behalf? For the essays, make sure you know what you want to write about before you put pen to paper. You’ll spend an inordinate amount of time editing your essays, so make sure you’ve got the main idea down first. In terms of the interviews, just be yourself. If you try to be someone you’re not, it’ll be apparent in the interview and it means the school probably isn’t a great fit. For the recommenders, the main thing is giving them ample lead time and structure — let them know the unique aspects of you that they understand which will help highlight your own skills.

What led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA? Coming from the marketing/sales world, I wanted to round out my skillset as a business person and Booth has a uniquely strong business curriculum.

What would you ultimately like to achieve before you graduate? I would like to win Booth’s New Venture Challenge and develop myself as a more well-rounded business person.
