Candidate:

Mr. 2nd MBA

About Me:

A finance and accounting professional with six years of experience in the shipping and financial services after my MBA. With no prior experience before the first MBA, I struggled to get into the right position and right industry where I wanted to work. Few years down the line I learned that I could have done better in another industry. A second MBA would provide that launchpad.

Hi, this is JP, Senior Consultant at The MBA Exchange. Congratulations on finishing your first marathon last year! As an endurance athlete myself, I can totally see that you’re someone who doesn’t quit and keeps going and going and going. The fact that you’re seeking a 2nd MBA is another proof! I disagree with the other experts, as I’ve worked with a number of applicants at your career/life stage and with positive outcomes. I can say with great confidence that the main key to success in your MBA application campaign will be to focus on the right programs that match your background and career goals. Also, you’re going to need a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of …

Hi, Mr. 2nd MBA, this is Julie-Anne Heafey from mbaMission. Hmmmmm. I agree that many top MBA programs either outright bar or frown upon applicants who already have MBAs, but some light Googling suggested to me that Michigan Ross might be an exception to this rule. Definitely go to the source – call or write Michigan Ross (and your other schools) and ask! Apart from that, I’m a little unclear on your goals and how your past experience will set you up for success in your future. These forms are not totally clear on which work experience was first, and your “life wins” doesn’t really clear that up for me. So, I’ll just advise that explaining this should be …

  • Stratus Admissions Counseling Odds Assessment: 5%

Hi, it’s Jennifer Jackson from Stratus Admissions. You have some wonderful extracurriculars and solid work experience, but unfortunately very few programs admit applicants who already have an MBA. To them it looks like you’re just “trading up” and they don’t think you need the education as much as someone who hasn’t had it yet. I would advise checking with each program to see if they’d even be open to someone getting a second MBA, even if the first was from another country. Perhaps you can try to make the case that the first one did not prepare you to reach your goals or become a leader who can make a significant impact.
