Having work experience as you do at a major airline is a real plus here because the airlines tend to supply very few candidates to the top business schools. Admission officials also will like your post-MBA goals to assume a leadership role in transportation and/or logistics as opposed to the usual mainstream industries that gobble up MBA talent. And the tough love I’m about to deliver is rather obvious: You need to get that GMAT score higher. A 640 isn’t going to get you into Kellogg unless every other aspect of your application is over the top. But in your case, as a white male from a state school, you need to do better than 640 to have a solid chance at Kellogg. If Kellogg is really where you want to be, take a class. Get a tutor. Set aside several weeks to get closer to 700. Retake the damn test as many times as it takes to get that score. Otherwise, apply to one of the many schools that are waiving GMAT scores right now.
