Hi Mr. Ambitious Chemical Salesman, It sounds like you’re doing very well at work – congrats on your early promotion and leading others! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I like that you are doing so well professionally. I think Columbia will like that you come from a non-traditional, differentiated industry and have been very engaged with community organizations and NGOs. That said, you are still early in your career. Schools are looking for candidates with several years of experience under their belt, so that they can contribute first hand business insights in the classroom. Do consider waiting another 1-2 years to apply. This would also give you additional time to beef up your GMAT score. Although 720 is close to the average GMAT at Columbia, it is a shade below the scores seen in Indian applicants. I think improving your GMAT score would make you a more competitive candidate. My estimate of your odds is based on applying now with a 720. But if you gain more experience under your belt and improve your test scores, your chances will improve.
