I knew post-COVID that aviation would never be the same and decided to make 2020 the year I fought for the career I wanted and enrolled in University. An MBA will offer the rigor and scope to build the right network in order that I can move into the consulting career I dream of, leveraging my deep experience in the aviation sector.

Mr. Aviation to Consulting – thanks for posting your profile. Susan here from Stratus.
While your story is very interesting and you have strong undergrad performance, there are several key pieces of your profile that are missing and/or not working in your favor. First – standardized test. This will be a determing factor in adcom assessing your ability to do the work in their program. Second – age. You are solidly above the age of the average incoming students. You need to explain why NOW is the right time for you to get an MBA. Third – goals. You haven’t offered any insight into WHY you want to go into consulting and how you will leverage your current skills as you transition into a new role. …

Going to business school to build a network is rarely well received.
Perhaps you have thought about these things and have the answers. Wishing you the best on your journey!
Mr. Aviation to Consulting, I’m Lisa Cummings of Stratus Admissions. You certainly have had an exciting career. Given your experience I can imagine you are cool under pressure and able to react to constantly changing conditions, qualities that are very useful for consultants. After reading your blub I still have a lot of questions. Schools look at many aspects of candidate’s lives, school, work, professional and community. You mention that 2020 was the year you enrolled in university- was that when you earned your graduate diploma? Given your experience I can imagine you are cool under pressure and able to react to constantly changing conditions, qualities that are very useful for consultants. After reading your blub I still have a lot of questions. Schools look at many aspects of candidate’s lives, school, work, professional and community. You mention that 2020 was the year you enrolled in university- was that when you earned your graduate diploma? A graduate diploma in Aviation from University of NSW does not require an undergraduate degree but most traditional MBA programs do expect applicants to have a bachelors’ degree. Did you get an undergraduate degree? On the professional side, how were you able to be successful in what sounds like a difficult work environment? In addition, the average years of work experience for MBA students in the programs on your list is 2-7 years with about 5 being the sweet spot. Finally, adcoms like to see some community involvement. Your line of work doesn’t seem to easily lend itself to that but were you able to mentor anyone or help our younger pilots or employees? If you are really interested in an MBA degree you may want to consider looking at EMBA programs too as they can be more flexible in their requirements and open to less traditional candidates.
It is difficult to predict odds for all candidates but the questions I still have and a lack of test score makes it even more so. I placed your odds at 10% which could go up if you get a test score the is within the range for LBS and or if you decide to apply for an executive MBA program. Either way, I wish you the best of luck in your ambitious career switch!
