You certainly pop out of the pile. You are a unique MBA candidate for a number of reasons. Obviously, not many surgeons apply to business school for an MBA and particularly not people with your incredible background in helping others. That is a real plus at Stanford. You certainly pop out of the pile. You are a unique MBA candidate for a number of reasons. Obviously, not many surgeons apply to business school for an MBA and particularly not people with your incredible background in helping others. That is a real plus at Stanford. You are also quite old for the GSB, as you no doubt know. The average amount of work experience in the latest entering class is 4.6 years. You have more than double that amount which puts you at an age of 38. Most of the MBA students would easily be ten years or more younger than you. On the other hand, Stanford does make exceptions. In fact, in the latest class there is at least one person with 14 years of work experience. Your 4.0 GPA is super impressive. You’re eight points shy of the class average on your GRE, though. The big question: Will Stanford buy your work experience in helping infants born with congenital facial differences? I’m not sure it would, largely because of your age. If I were you, I would take a serious look at Stanford’s MSx one-year program, MIT’s Sloan Felows program and London Business School’s Sloan Fellows program as well. Any of these programs should open the door to your post-MBA goals and I think those programs are a better fit for you at this stage in your life.
