Candidate:

Mr. Energy Focus

About Me:

I like to think of myself as a skilled generalist – engineering undergrad, consulting background – with an energy industry focus, and want to take that to the next level with an elite MBA. I’m fascinated by the “human” side of energy challenges & have the experience to that end; including working for 1.5yr for a 2 week trip to Peru on a water project.

Looking to build a career answering the questions of how we can build an economy that’s environmentally sustainable while spreading the quality of life benefits stemming from access to energy. Hi Mr. Energy Focus,
Thanks for posting your profile. This is Debbie Choy, GSB alum and Senior Consultant at mbaMission. In my 8 years working with candidates, I do not see many from the construction industry. Importantly, I like that you have strong academics (GPA, GMAT), took a risk in your career to pursue your passion, and have had increasing responsibilities at work. Also, I’m impressed with your giving back through Engineers Without Borders. These are all qualities that GSB seeks. Be sure to weave all these elements into your essays to help the Admissions Committee (AdCom) get to know you and what motivates you to achieve these things. If you can execute your narrative compellingly, I think you have a strong chance at GSB …

Mr. Energy Focus – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan Cera here from Stratus.

Love your solid stats and your willingness to take a risk and leave consulting to build out new skills and experiences in the construction industry. While I’m just seeing small glimpses of your story through the limited information in your profile, I can see how a narrative that brings together your professional experience with your work in Peru could showcase what matters most. My guess is that you have already changed some lives through your work with Engineers without Borders. Stanford is a great place for you to develop the skills and relationships to take that to the next level.

You have the foundations of a great candidacy. You must bring it in …
