2 years spent in Germany as Assistant Intelligence Chief, where my supervisor ranked me in the top 5% of my peers. After moving home, I worked as an executive officer of an Army Basic Training unit, where I planned and resourced the training of over 1,200 new soldiers. Looking to use my analysis and leadership skills in the business world.

I would like to take the leadership and analysis that the army taught me, and refine it to the business world. In the end, I want to work with people to form creative solutions in the business world.

Hi, Mr. Intel, Julie-Anne Heafey here at mbaMission. You know, I work with a lot of military applicants, and I actually haven’t seen a lot of them target Columbia as a first choice. So that already gets me intrigued – why is it yours? There’s nothing super obvious about that in your profile, and that’s something that Columbia will be looking for, so if it’s your top choice, make sure to make your fit there and passion for NYC crystal clear. Are you applying in the current round, or in the round to start in 2021? If now, give it a shot, but know that your GMAT’s on the low side and that might hinder your chances depending on the spaces available and competition in the pool. If you’re applying for the next cycle, do try to raise it to improve your odds, and go for Early Decision if you’re clear on your choice. I do like your chances better at some of the other names on your list, so if you can add some of those to your list whenever you’re applying, I recommend it. Columbia does tend to like clarity of goals (well, most schools do, but some are stricter than others). Understandably, you’ll have more uncertainty than others as a military applicant, but in a pinch, consulting does sound quite reasonable for you. Final advice – leverage any military affinity groups at your target schools, they can be a huge help in the process. Good luck!
