During college, I set my focus on the life science industry, despite not having a technical science background. My internships in strategy and BD transitioned nicely into my current job at a boutique strategy consulting firm. I am fascinated by the intersection of tech, biology, and healthcare and am passionate about learning and driving impact.

Outside of my work at my consulting firm, I have started a mental health-focused apparel brand that donates a large portion of our revenue to a collection of rotating mental health foundations. Additionally, we are focused on becoming a mental health resource itself, by promoting our partner’s content and developing our own thought leadership.
My goal is to transition my learnings in consulting and business school to shift to an industry-side commercial strategy and new product planning role. Further down the line, I would like to leverage my MBA network into a role in venture capital or new entity generation.

Hi Mr. Life Science Strategy, Congrats on your successful transition to a boutique consulting firm. Having had years of experience in the healthcare industry myself, I think a consulting role is a fantastic way to learn about the life sciences industry. This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I think your profile will be compelling to Kellogg, which has a fantastic healthcare program. I like that you also took the initiative to start an apparel brand that supports mental health foundations, and are looking to become a resource as well. Given your background, I think your goals of pivoting into the corporate side post-MBA seems logical. As you put your apps together, consider sharing your personal stories and motivation for why you are passionate about life sciences …
As you put your apps together, consider sharing your personal stories and motivation for why you are passionate about life sciences and specifically mental health. For example, was there a class or person that really inspired you to dedicate your career to this field? Finally, your GRE score may be a concern for AdCom. For the most selective schools on your list such as Kellogg, Wharton and Booth, a combined GRE score of 330 would be more competitive. Consider retaking the test if you can. My estimate of your odds is based on your current GRE score. I think if you can improve your standardized test score, and weave in personal stories to help AdCom understand what motivates you, you would have a good shot at Kellogg. If you’d like to discuss your profile in further detail, feel free to schedule a consultation with us. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!
