Mr. Sailor in Suit, I presume you either love sailing or were in the U.S. Navy? In either case, you are an excellent candidate for INSEAD. Your background in engineering at a top state school with a strong GPA of 3.6 and an even stronger GMAT score of 740 (well above the class average at INSEAD) is a really good start to your story. More importantly, though, you are from the U.S. (INSEAD loves Americans) and you have a career in the Valley that would allow you to make a valuable contribution in INSEAD classes. Your early start in consulting and your post-MBA goal to return to it at an MBB firm is also perfect for INSEAD as well. The only thing missing from this …
The only thing missing from this profile is international experience. That doesn’t mean you have had to work abroad but you should have some exposure to the wider world. If you don’t, that can become a major hurdle for you at INSEAD. I’m assuming that you can at least spin a half way decent story on having worked with associates in different parts of the world. DO spin that story. If you can, I think you can pack your bags for France or Singapore.!
INSEAD loves Americans, especially those with 740 GMATs.
