Hi Mr Senior Analyst, Kristen from MBA Prep School here. I’m impressed by the number of promotions you have received in such a short time and your role in setting up your organization’s first plant. I also think your cross-cultural interactions will be a strength. Your GPA is of concern but I think your GMAT, quant work experience, and CPA/CFA can help ease concerns. I will admit you did raise my eyebrow when I read you had promotions across different organizations in a short period of time. If you made more than one career change within the last few years that might be considered a red flag and you would need to address why you made the decisions you made. However, it is great to …

I will admit you did raise my eyebrow when I read you had promotions across different organizations in a short period of time. If you made more than one career change within the last few years that might be considered a red flag and you would need to address why you made the decisions you made. However, it is great to be able to show impact even within a short time frame. Another challenge you are facing is simply differentiation. You will be a member of two overrepresented applicant populations for Wharton: finance background and Indian ethnicity. Do some self-reflection on what What makes you unique and how can you stand out? What does your mentorship look like (is it a formal program, did you create it, etc)? You’ll need to do some self-reflection on what you bring to the table that others don’t!
Hi Mr. Senior Analyst! This is Kate Richardson, Senior Admissions Consultant, weighing in on your profile. I really like the mix of exposure you’ve had in your career (e.g., manufacturing) plus the fast promotions. Your post MBA goals seem reasonable too. Your GPA is a bit low, and while the high GMAT can help a lot with that, it could be a challenge at a top school like Wharton. I would also be thinking about ways you can differentiate your profile for Wharton, as they see a lot of applicants with finance backgrounds as you can imagine! Perhaps the international angle is one differentiation, perhaps there is something outside work, etc. I’d want to know more!
Hi Mr. Senior Analyst, this is Kristen from MBA Prep School! it sounds like with your fast promotions and high impact projects you’ve had some great experiences in the organizations you have been a part of. At first you raised my eyebrows when you mentioned multiple promotions across different organizations, but I assume you mean across 2 employers? If you’ve made more than one job change within 3-4 years it might raise a red flag to the Admissions Committee and you would certainly need to address why you made the career decisions you made. Your GPA will be another point to address, but the GMAT, quant work experience, and CPA can help with that. You’ll definitely need to make sure you distinguish yourself from other candidates (what makes you, YOU) and explain your career goals in-depth. Pulling together cohesive essays will be key!
