I’ve been fascinated with the manufacturing and marketing of consumer goods for as long as I can remember. Majored in engineering with the intention of becoming a product engineer, but quickly realized that might not be the career for me. Ended up at an MBB after college and now work as a consumer investor for a boutique with top-quartile returns.

I’ve worked very closely with my portfolio companies and have stepped in to take on roles when there have been human capital shortages, including over the holidays where I helped our portco’s eCommerce department generate record sales. Have also worked as a standalone analyst to advise one of the largest CPG conglomerates on digital strategy.
Join an early-stage consumer fund or corporate venture capital arm focusing on better-for-you consumer investing. Would also explore a management level role in a fast-growing consumer package goods company that focuses on wellness and sustainability.

Hello Ms. Consumer Investor! Krista Nannery from mbaMission here. Thanks for posting. In my experience, top schools love seeing MBB + one other company on your resume. It shows that you understand both the consulting side and how business really gets run. I’m also loving this 3.7/330 combination. It will serve you well in this process. Given your strong pedigree, I think your chances are solid at HBS but make sure you use that essay to get personal and go beyond your resume and “Why HBS.” (Honestly, they really don’t even want to know “Why HBS” unless your reasoning is super-super unique.) I’d love to see you at Wharton to the mix please. I also think that Haas and Yale are great places for your goals so …

Hi, it’s Jennifer Jackson from Stratus Admissions. Lots to like about your profile! You have excellent stats including a hard major from a top school. I like the combination of experience you’ve gotten both at an MBB firm in consulting and a boutique firm as a consumer investor. There’s a great story to tell here about your love of manufacturing and marketing of consumer products, and the arc it takes, starting with your major (and probably before that even), ending on the financial side now. Your ST goal seems thought-out and makes sense with what you’ve done. I like your extracurriculars as well. Is that tutoring with high-risk immigrant children related to anything you experienced/overcame/witnesses when you were growing up? A personal connection to the …

Is that tutoring with high-risk immigrant children related to anything you experienced/overcame/witnesses when you were growing up? A personal connection to the why behind that would add an interesting element to that activity. HBS is super competitive obviously but between your stats and work experience and potential for a really compelling narrative, I’d give you a better-than-average chance at HBS!
