Hi, it’s Nisha from mbaMission. It sounds like you’ve had a very progressive and leadership-driven career in the CPG industry so far. I also love seeing your involvement with children in need and young leaders. And props to you for sticking to the piano for so long – I wish I’d had your discipline way back when I was learning how to play!

From what I read here, it sounds like your community involvement and your experience with the purpose-driven marketing campaign are what have shaped your interest in switching to social impact consulting, which certainly makes a lot of sense. I did want to caution you that it can be challenging to land this role immediately post-MBA, as the number of social impact consulting firms are limited, and the social impact consulting arms of strategy consulting firms (such as BCG) generally don’t hire recent grads. If you are open to it, I think it would be more feasible to state strategy consulting as your post-MBA goal, and then have social impact consulting as a long-term goal. I have worked successfully with a number of candidates to top schools who went down this very career path, and figured it may resonate with you as well.
Regarding your school list – I also recommend adding Kellogg, Ross, and Fuqua due to their strengths in both consulting and social impact. Hope that helps – please get in touch if you’d like to discuss further. I used to work in CPG brand management and have worked with many social impact-oriented MBA candidates, so I would welcome the opportunity to connect with you. In any case, though, very best of luck!
