I had a late start to realizing my potential. Parents are part of a minority group/immigrants, they couldn’t guide me since they never finished school. Luckily, I crossed paths with mentors who inspired me to be more. Solo-traveling changed my mindset to be curious and self-aware, challenge my potential. I want to make an impact and pay it forward. **Additional Commentary: I understand my GPA is low. What test scores I need in order to be accepted into these programs? I am aiming for hybrid/part-time programs as I’d like to stay in NYC.

Hi Ms. Future CMO, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. I love that you are considering part time/hybrid programs and think that you will have a lot to offer (not to mention continue having a paycheck!) Over 80% of Booth’s Evening program commutes in from outside of Chicago. You asked about what you need on a test based on your lower GPA. Let’s look at Booth’s Evening Program for example, since it is your target school. The 80% range for GPA is 3.0-3.9, so you are essentially within this range – on the lower end. The GMAT 80% range is 630-740. What you need to think about is how you are going to display your ability to handle the academic curriculum (think quant type classes). Did …

The GMAT 80% range is 630-740. What you need to think about is how you are going to display your ability to handle the academic curriculum (think quant type classes). Did you have to take any quant classes with your Communications major? If so, will they help or hurt your quant story? It will be important to have a stronger quant score on a test. And if this is a challenge, then you may want to take a financial management class to show that you can handle the coursework. Berkeley and UCLA extensions offer good courses. With all this said, it looks like you have some strong leadership skills to highlight both professionally and extra-curricularly. This will be important to your profile as well. If you have not already, reach out to the admissions teams at the schools you are interested in – I think you will find part time programs are very willing to talk through your profile with you and give you advice on what you might need to enhance. Ask to talk with other students who have done the commute from NY – so that you can have insight into that side of the decision as well. It’s tough to assess odds without a test score. However with your list of schools – I think you’ve chosen a nice range and have a good shot. I wish you the best of luck!
