I’ve worked in the insurance industry with various titles as a consultant since my second year of university. I worked full time in this role during my studied which impacted my GPA. My disdain for school at the time certainly didn’t help!

Hi, Ms. Insurance, this is Julie-Anne Heafey from mbaMission. What strikes me about your profile is not the stats, but the fact that after reading it, I’m not sure what you’re great at or where your interests lie. Since MBA programs are relatively brief, particularly in Europe where they might only be a year (like at Oxford Said), you’ll need to demonstrate clear goals to show that you’ll fully take advantage of their offerings and land a great job when you leave. If you’re not clear on at least a proposed direction, they’ll likely decide you’re not ready to attend. Since the Oxford application is short but devotes a section to digging into those goals, this clarity will be important …
Since the Oxford application is short but devotes a section to digging into those goals, this clarity will be important for you. Apart from that, your undergrad GPA is very low, but my guess is that you can help them look past it at least somewhat if you can add the context that you were working full time and convince them that those days are behind you. I would not mention the disdain for school even if it’s behind you but instead highlight your outside workload. Your higher-than-Said’s-average GMAT will also help your case, but you’ll need to convince them that you’re ready to go back to school, so showing evidence of “academic preparedness” by highlighting accreditations if you have them or coursework can help. Given your murky goals and your low GPA, I can’t rate your odds too high just yet, but more clarity of direction and demonstration of readiness will boost your chances. Good luck!!
