I was born and raised in Taiwan, and have been living and working in Canada for 10 years. I was a published poet with national and international awards before becoming a CPA (5+ years exp. in real estate). I work as a marketing strategist and copyeditor through my consulting practice. I am a big believer in community building with a track record of involvement.
As an older applicant, I understand the importance of “Why an MBA now?” I want to highlight how an MBA program will allow me to bridge my knowledge gaps in operations, strategy, and policy studies to solve the complex issue of housing affordability. I could continue working at my firm but an FT MBA will provide an accelerated path to achieve my goal.

– Helped a Canadian startup expand into a new market (self-employment). – Getting promoted to manager in under 1.5 years (typical timeframe at my firm is 2-3 years) – Started the first peer mentor program at my current company. – Impact through financial literacy volunteering – This means a lot to me as a first-generational student.
Currently, I work as a tax manager for a multinational real estate company. I am hoping to pivot to asset management or strategic finance at an impact-driven real estate firm aiming to tackle housing affordability.

Hi Ms Poet to CFA! Now, for an ambitious achiever like you, I hope you do not find my 20% rating discouraging. In fact, this is about the highest I’d rate anyone for a program like GSB with the most competitive acceptance rate of 6%. My rating puts you at 3.5x more likely to gain admission than most – So, I hope you instead find this encouraging! I love what you bring to the table and I hope you are geared up to apply with your best possible admissions campaign yet this R1 or R2. I tend to consider myself pretty well rounded, but when you put Poet and CPA AND the numbers you have all in one package, …
I tend to consider myself pretty well rounded, but when you put Poet and CPA AND the numbers you have all in one package, it just makes me want to scream from the rooftops what an exceptional and unique individual you are. And, that is just plain awesome! Your goals in affordable housing feel authentic and real based on your background in real estate and is also complemented by your work around financial literacy (I presume these two topics source from the same motivation to create equal opportunities for all). My biggest piece of advice for you all comes down to your storytelling, which, as a poet, should hopefully come naturally to you. You have the package and stats for GSB; now, let’s just make sure that you communicate all this goodness in a way that gets you that gets you packing your bags for Stanford… and praying the flight will actually deliver on getting you there! š I’ll place my bets on you Ms. Poet to CPA!
