Hi Ms. Top Firm Consulting, This is Debbie Choy, GSB alum and Senior Consultant at mbaMission. I like your unique background going from Sales & Trading to now working at MBB, where it sounds like you’re also working on some interesting projects. Your GPA at McGill is solid, but the GMAT score, which is a shade below the average at GSB may be a concern. That said, your outstanding performance at HEC should offset any potential academic concerns. Be sure to be specific in your career goals though. What industry might you want to make an impact in? How will you make your mark? The Admissions Committee (AdCom) will be looking to better understand these from your essays, especially since you already have a similar graduate …

How will you make your mark? The Admissions Committee (AdCom) will be looking to better understand these from your essays, especially since you already have a similar graduate degree from HEC. What do you aim to learn at business school that you didn’t learn at HEC? Finally, I like that you’re a leader within your community with regards to LGBTQ and women’s issues. How have these experiences shaped you as a leader and team player? If you are able to convey your unique stories compellingly, I think you’d have a good shot at Stanford. Best wishes in your MBA journey!
Hi Ms. Top Firm Consulting, This is Donna Bauman from Stratus Admissions commenting on your profile. I am impressed with your international background and your accomplishments in consulting. I also think your work as an LGBTQ ally will be well received by MBA programs. When I think about GSB, however, I think about people who have big dreams and want to change the world. You may indeed have this—but I don’t really see that big burning problem that you want to solve—it would help if you could be more specific about what you want to do in building your own company. I do think you can present favorably in MBA admissions but GSB is the toughest nut to crack—and if you can show how you …

You may indeed have this—but I don’t really see that big burning problem that you want to solve—it would help if you could be more specific about what you want to do in building your own company. I do think you can present favorably in MBA admissions but GSB is the toughest nut to crack—and if you can show how you are committed to doing big things in the world and solving big problems—that’s what you will need to show to make it at the GSB. For the schools listed, I think CBS could be your best shot, but potentially if you have an interesting narrative and show your habit of leadership then maybe the doors to HBS will open. I also like Yale, Kellogg, Booth, Tuck and Fuqua for you if you are open to broadening your list. Best wishes to you and please reach out if you’d like to do a free consult!
