“When you’re putting your application together, you need to be honest with who you are and what you have done,” advises Brandon Kirby, director of MBA marketing and admissions at the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University. “Be proud of what you’ve done and have some personality. It’s easy for me to say that because I am on the other side of the table. But it wasn’t so long ago that I was on the other side going through interviews with schools myself. Schools don’t want robots. They want human beings. The kind of leader you are going to become is important and that starts with the application process for us. Really understanding who you are as a person will give us a good indication of who you will become as a leader. Do well in the GMAT, of course. Don’t self-select yourself out. Be confident, tell a story and be truthful.”
