Handicapping Your MBA Odds: Do Female Indian Techies Have An Easier Time?

Do female Indian techies have an easier time with the HBS adcom?

Jayati is an Indian student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Allahabad studying engineering. She founded a startup in artificial intelligence with a professor.

Jayati will graduate with her degree in 2020 and is hoping to apply to several deferred admissions programs, including Harvard Business School’s 2+2, Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, and Yale School of Management’s Silver Scholars program. Her post-MBA goal: to get into venture capital.

Though she hasn’t formally sat for either the GMAT or GRE, she has an 8.2 out of 10 in her undergraduate studies, placing her in the top 20% of the class. Her extras are impressive: She has written drama scripts for a college team, worked in slum areas in her local city, and is a

voracious reader in philosophy and literature.

In this episode of Fridays with Sandy, HBSGuru.com founder Sandy Kreisberg assesses her odds of admission and provides some important guidance on how she should portray herself to admission officials at those top schools.

Warning: There’s touch love in this episode. At one point, Kreisberg calls her draft essay for Harvard a “disorganized mishmash of experiences and bragging.”
