I see that your profile assessment is now closed but wanted to quickly wish you good luck on your GMAT retake! I think that’s the right call to retake to try to improve that side of your profile. I think your work experience sounds interesting and strong, but a high GMAT is your best bet to mitigate your lower GPA.
Hi Mr. 2nd Time Charm! I like your optimism! This is Donna Bauman with Stratus Admissions and I am glad to review your profile. Good luck in taking the GMAT soon—I think MBA programs will admire you for attempting the online GMAT. An improved score could certainly help tip the balance in your favor in future admissions. But also you can improve your chances in sharing more of what drives you in your applications. I am intrigued that you have fashion industry experience and yet are very data driven. Try to connect the dots in your life to stand out more and show the schools how your past background will help you in your future goals. For example, in transitioning to consulting in Asia, is there way to have a retail focus that leverages your knowledge in the fashion industry? That could help you stand out in both recruiting and in the admissions process. Obviously with NYC being a major fashion center there will be some resources at Columbia and in the greater community that could be helpful in showing further retail industry knowledge. I would reapply to CBS and get an early start—new applications start being accepted usually by mid-summer. Kellogg has great consulting resources and Haas could be a great US base for you in building connections for your longer term goal to be in Asia. In all your applications emphasize your impact as you have done in describing some of your big life wins. Best wishes and reach out if you want to discuss your situation in more detail in a free consult.
