I am looking at an EMBA. I have 17-years in the Active Duty Army and in the last 8-years I have been serving in leadership in the Army Special Operations organization that has a >1% selection rate. I was also rated as the top performer in my career field for 4-consecutive years. I led teams and individuals conducting worldwide activities resulting in DoD and Intelligence Community awards for elite performance in 2018 and 2019. I am also a Purple Heart recipient and looking to apply as a Pat Tillman Scholar – Cohort 2022.
Quant is lower than ideal; however, I took the GRE for a Ph.D. program where Quant was not considered a factor and did not study. I could probably raise to the lower 150s, but the max total GRE score is unlikely to break 315. My GRE expires in April 2021, and I will need to retake it.

Private sector transition, considering major consulting firms (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.). Primarily looking for job placement in Seattle area, not tied to anything specific; however, seeking a better balance between compensation relative to time and stress than currently receiving in the military. Ultimately looking to make a leadership impact in the private sector, I have already accomplished this at high-level in the military, and want to take those experiences and develop others. I would eventually like to support Veterans’ Transition organizations, mainly those within the Special Operations Community, which are currently helping me during my own transition. I plan to ‘retire’ at 50 (12-years post-MBA) and focus on non-profit/NGO activities overseas, potentially with my son when he graduates college.

Hi Captain CornDawg, Firstly, thank you for your service to the country. This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. Your background is very impressive, and your leadership track record is a great fit for EMBA programs. If you find yourself hitting a ceiling with the GRE, do look into the Executive Assessment (EA). Most if not all EMBA programs accept the EA, and in fact, some prefer it. The study materials are similar for the EA but you only get one attempt. Most EMBA candidates find the EA more suitable than the GRE. As you put the rest of your app together, be sure to articulate what motivates you to transition to the private sector. Why specifically consulting or MBB? What specific skills or knowledge are you …
