1. I’m responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and managing my org’s interns and all my supervisors have commended me for my work and have said that this year’s group of interns was the best in the history of the org. 2. Increased operational efficiency which resulted in a 5% reduction of expenses versus budget for my areas of responsibility.
Long-term, I want to be an Executive Director of a national/international performing arts organization. In the short-term, I see myself working in consulting post-MBA to build up work experience outside of the non-profit sector.

Hi Mr. Dancing around the Numbers! I am a sucker for candidates with unique profiles like you and, lucky for you, so is AdCom! I love that you are a man of art and hope you can not only tell stories with your toes but also with your feather pen through your MBA admissions storytelling! For candidates like you with such strong non-cookie cutter backgrounds, how you tell your story becomes everything. You’ll need to be compelling in translating how your cruise ship dancing and non profit dance festival work will translate to more traditional business like the consulting world in your goals.

I might also challenge you in a few areas: (1) why is it that you feel you need an MBA to become an Executive Director of a national/international performing arts organization? Is an MBA a typical path for this type of role and if not, why do YOU need an MBA to be effective in this role? and (2) what is your source of motivation for a ST goal in consulting? Is this truly authentic or does it just feel like the easy answer since over 1/5th of MBAs go into consulting? If the latter, please keep in mind just how competitive Consulting recruiting is and ensure that its right for you. And, AdCom cares about how “hirable” you are within the field you mention in your applications.
In summary, i encourage you to get crystal clear on who you are, who you want to be and what the driving force is behind both of these things. If you can demonstrate a strong level of self-awareness and realism through this process, your unique candidacy will shine! If you put the right work in, you could be dancing your way to Cambridge!
