Ahoy Mr. Mariner, it’s Lisa Cummings of Stratus Admissions. I may be missing something but your blurb says 8+ years of experience but your work history adds up to 6+. At over 8 years , and even at 6 years, you will be above the average range of years of experience. While this isn’t a dealbreaker you will need to provide a good narrative to your adcomms. Why FMCG out of the Navy? I don’t see any reference to this in your work history, education or extracurriculars. While many candidates are looking at business school to pivot or make a career change, there needs to be a clear thread or theme that the committees can see so they can …
While many candidates are looking at business school to pivot or make a career change, there needs to be a clear thread or theme that the committees can see so they can understand how this pivot will make sense and is realistic. Otherwise you will give the committees pause when they read your goal statements. What skills have you used at work that will be applicable in your new roles? While your fast promotion is impressive, I don’t have a good sense of your job responsibilities and how those skills will be transferable. I realize these blurbs are short and you may have left this info out. Take time up front to really think through your goals and make the tight connections so your target schools can see that you you have the skill set you need to build on and indicate how each school can help your achieve your dreams. Additionally, schools like to see extracurriculars that are both fun and interesting to you AND that show an interest in the community or in others. Your list is intersting but is is all inwardly focused, have you done any volunteer or community work that you can talk about? Leadership or mentoring? Take the time up front to think through all these issues so you can present a compelling story for adcomms so they can see and understand how your past experiences, along with the skills you will attain in an MBA, will allow you to reach your goals. I wish you the best of luck.
